Imagine going from leading a full, active life, one day coming down with a sinus infection that migrates to your knees, and then ending up in the hospital needing surgery due to the swelling and infection in both of your knees.
This would be a sobering thought for any of us, and unfortunately, local resident Genie Wood found herself in these circumstances just a few short months ago. Thanks to a rapid and responsive hospitalization, an excellent medical and rehab team at Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and extraordinary effort on Wood’s part, she is back home leading a full, active life again.
Four Life Care Centers of America and Century Park Associates communities recently placed first in their respective categories in the “North Idaho Business Journal” Best of North Idaho 2016 competition.
Annually, the “Coeur d’Alene Press” hosts a contest that allows members of the community to vote for which businesses are the best in their fields. Categories include automotive, cosmetology, health care, restaurants and other industries.
The award was given during a Life Care ceremony held at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Seven other division award winners and a company-wide winner were also honored.
When the theme Flower Power was announced for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, local Life Care associates set out to win the Best Costume category for the second year in a row.
On July 23, 2015, the Idaho Health Care Association presented its Skilled Nursing Facility Employee of the Year Award to Ricky Bacon, director of housekeeping at Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene.
The ceremony took place during the IHCA’s annual awards banquet, held this year in Boise. The award recognizes above-and-beyond professionalism and customer service.
On May 27, 2015, associates from Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, volunteered their time and helping hands to do lawn work for local seniors.
It was all part of a community-service event called Rake and Run. Each year, a senior-advocacy association called Carenet sponsors the event, mobilizing teams of volunteers and professionals to help seniors who need assistance with their yards.

Thanks to the rehabilitation program at Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Florence Harwood is playing music again.
In May 2014, Harwood lost her balance and fell off her back porch at home. The fall resulted in fractures of both her arms and legs. Besides losing the ability to perform basic daily tasks, Harwood also lost the ability to play the piano.
